Affluenza: Valid Defense Or Balderdash?

Posted on the 17 December 2013 by Technocowgirl @TechnoCowgirl

A 16-year-old boy was given 10-years’ probation for killing 4 people, and injuring 9 during a D.U.I crash in Texas. In a shocking verdict, Judge Jean Boyd ruled Ethan Couch, was mentally ill when the crime occurred in June. The diagnosis is, get this, Affluenza! Therefore, Couch could not connect action to consequence. Meaning, the child had no clue if he committed a crime, he would be punished. Couch’s psychologist claims, the boy comes from a life of privilege, and was taught, anything he does is acceptable, or money would buy him out of everything. According to his psychologist, he is entitled to do as he pleases because of his wealthy up-bringing, and, lack of good parenting.

Every bad behavior is considered a disorder these days; the true disorder is, lack of personal responsibility! The judge which accepts such a defense is an idiot (or, on the take), and should be removed from the Bench immediately! Such a judgment opens a can of worms America is not ready for. Every rich crack-pot in the Nation is conjuring up their defense at this very moment. Actually, poor criminals are figuring a way to turn this ridiculous judgment toward their favor.

I consider this defense balderdash! I grew up with a drug-addicted, cocaine dealer. We were homeless –migrant workers. At times, we had no food or shelter –education certainly wasn’t on the menu. I was taught, lying, stealing, dealing drugs, being molested, cheating the government, and abusing others was right; I knew of nothing else. I lay on a rest area bench, watching my mother and her friend hop trucks for drugs and gas. These were the lessons I learned! Feel sorry for me yet? Sorry enough to excuse my actions if I go kill 4 people? Of course not!

If not being taught between right and wrong excuses murder and other bad behavior –we can close all the prisons down now! Obviously, criminals weren’t taught something valuable if their ass is in jail. Coddling and enabling the problem doesn’t fix it! Furthermore, if the defense is, he wasn’t taught properly –his parent’s asses should be prosecuted; that’s their job! It’s time we start holding responsible parties responsible –parents and children. Personal responsibility has become the true minority in America.
