We are in the days where same sex couples are having children and weddings, African Americans are the CEOs of Fortune 500 companies, and an African American man is the President of these United States. While things progress and change, other things still remain the same. Now, I would be a hypocrite if I said that I didn't enjoy a racist joke or two, I live for comedy that points out the differences between all races for humor. Dave Chapelle, D.L. Hughley, Paul Mooney, and Chris Rock are famous for this style of stand up comedy. When is it no longer funny? Ill tell you when. When hatred of a race is so deep that it manifests itself in the form of Rodney Kings, Sean Bells, and Trayvon Martins. It seems that with the progression of the time a lot of things are becoming the norm and are just plain accepted. People want to argue that 'N***er' and 'N***a' are not the same thing. We as black people have been called this for hundreds of years without being able to do a damn thing about it and now that it's been changed to mean something positive everyone seems to be doing their damnedest to do away with it. You have black and white kids listening to the same types of music, having interracial children, and simply coexisting harmoniously and I think the Hip Hop culture is to thank for that. On the flip side, there are instances where racism seems to be rearing it ugly head and it doesn't seem like enough is being done about it. If you work at McDonalds and are called a N***er by your supervisor chances are you have grounds for a multi-million dollar lawsuit. What about when the person spewing ignorance is someone that is wealthy or famous? Not much! If Wendy Williams decided she was going to wake up tomorrow and call a bunch of white girls 'crackers' she would have taped her last show prior to those words leaving her lips. Howard Stern makes one racially ignorant statement per show and I'm guessing the FCC isn't listening at those times. I agree with freedom of speech but when that speech is used as weapons against one particular group of people, that is where I draw the line. Racism effects us in blatant ways these days as well. President Obama is the first openly disrespected President in the HISTORY of the Presidency and I'm surprised more people aren't angry about this. When Bill Clinton was elected, and George Bush stole his term, twice, where the hell was Donald Trump to request copies of their birth certificates. Arnold Schwarzenegger became governor of California and he barely speaks audible English, no one requested his birth certificate. Sarah Palin is an idiot, and yet, no one requested her blood to see if she is even human. It seems that we as a people have forgotten our economic power. We are supposed to be 10% of the entire US population but we are top 5 for every sport, we spend more money than any other race, regardless of what we are buying, we spend billions per year. If your rims spin, spin on player. What I do not like is the fact that someone will openly say something racist and we will continue to patron their establishments, buy their labels, play their music, and support their brand. Do you know why a lot of African American businesses fail in my opinion? People that are racist will not shop there. We are in a recession but I still see black stars shopping their hearts out and more often than not they are not buying the brand of their people. Abercrombie is famous for not employing African Americans and yet I see a lot of black kids wearing it. I can't understand this logic. It seems something like this isn't a problem until Jay-Z says it is, or Kanye says it is. Where in hell is our common sense. We are conforming and sweeping this under the rug, shrugging it off of our shoulders, and turning a blind eye. Do you know why I believe George Zimmerman killed Trayvon Martin? Because he honestly believes that he will get off because he is a white man and Trayvon was a black boy. You know what's messed up about that logic? He may be absolutely right. America loves animals and value their lives more than the lives of the citizens whose ancestors made America the force it is today. How else could Casey Anthony walk while Michael Vick does prison time for something he wasn't even present for? Politicians can shoot friends in the back and apologize, Lil Wayne trips over the American flag and the world goes crazy. We are a nation of racists, bullies, drug pushers, gluttons, and viral weaponry. If you think these diseases popping up are an act of nature than you my friend need to wake up!
The latest in racism is the garbage spewed by Paula Deen. People want to argue that she apologized for her antics, that she is old and comes from a time when referring ti black people as n***ers was acceptable. I have to call bullshit. Paula Deen is a 'closeted' racist. She knows these days saying things like she did and ruffling the wrong black feathers can end your career so she will apologize just enough for the world to forget. We will never forget. I don't care what color you are because first and foremost we are a nation of PEOPLE! We come in all shapes, sizes, colors, creeds, and nationalities. We need everyone that is here because other countries hate us. 9-11 brought our nation together because we found a group of people to hate together as a nation! And that was accepted. What we need to do is learn LOVE, that's the only thing that will ever defeat hate! We need to show everyone that this form of behavior is unacceptable and will not be tolerated by anyone anywhere!
