A Wicked Night at Mystic Brew

By Caidiva @caidiva

It’s another bloggers night for the “south bloggers” and this time, it’s in a unique cafe located in BF Resort Subdivision, Las Piñas City.

Mystic Cafe and Curios is an wizardry-themed cafe operated by business-minded wizards that serves simple (but with a touch of oomph), comfort meals & unique brews.

image

The place, despite the strange theme, has a home-y feel to it which makes it an ideal tambayan for bloggers, artists, and students.

Take a further look at the interior. Harry Potter fans will surely love the ambiance!

Here you can read, play/listen to music, eat, and shop. Mystic Brew is like a mini Diagon Alley!

image

Look, they even sell wands!!!

The loo, as everyone agreed, is the nicest part of the place. Very clean too! (Major plus points for me!)

The Food:

As I have mentioned, the food they serve here are mostly comfort fares that we are all familiar with, but of course with a little twist. And since this is a themed cafe, they injected a few unusual brews to make this spot a little more interesting!

image.jpeg

Mystic coolers, anyone?

image.jpeg

Kamias Shake served ala Margarita. Tangy and salty but very refreshing!

image.jpeg

Ice-blended Chili Mint Coffee. A drink that is both hot (chili) and cool (mint)!

Rose Vanilla Tea

image

Butter Brew (their version of Harry Potter’s Butterbeer). 80’s kids would love this, lasang Butterball candy!

For Soups and Appetizers they have:

image

Monk’s Brew (Hungarian Goulash) and Gayuma (Onion Soup).

The Monk’s Brew is a tomato-based soup/stew with pork chunks and some vegetables. Nothing great. Gayuma naman is their version of French Onion Soup. But instead of using French cheese, they use Quezo de Bola. It’s more flavorful, so good!

image

Chalupa-Cabra (Tostadas platter salad-style and pika-pika style). This is just a fancy name for mexican tostada, your usual taco/taco salad.

image.jpeg

Meteor Balls (spicy potato and beef croquettas with dip). It’s too bland for my taste but the rest of the bloggers liked it.

image.jpeg

Basilisk Bites (Cheese Sticks with Pesto). Now this is addictive! I love pesto and I love cheese sticks too so this is a perfect combo. The way they serve it lang… Six thin sticks in a big platter, it looks so kawawa! They should just serve it in a glass nalang like straws or they should consider adding a few more sticks, mas better!

Meals

image.jpeg

Sausage Mash with Mystic Glaze (sausage and mashed potatoes). They make their own sausages and they are really good. Salty and garlic-y, just the way I like them! The mashed potato could use a bit more butter, cream and herbs though.

image.jpeg

Italian Garlic Banger Pasta (oil-based pasta with sausage and garlic). Too bland and boring!

image.jpeg

Chorizo Rice with Adobo Flakes (with egg, garlic and tomato on the side). THIS IS THE BOMB! You must order this no matter what time you go there and no matter how full you are. Basta, YOU MUST TRY IT!!!

Desserts

Dragon's claw.JPG

Dragon Claw (Fried Apple Strudel/puff pastry). This is a good, comforting dessert that is nice to have on a rainy day or to cap the night off. I think they use the same puff pastry recipe that they use on their Chalupa-Cabra, except this has cinnamon. Anyway, this is big enough to share but I doubt you’ll want to!

image.jpeg

Choco Riquisimo (Hot Chocolate). This is uber rich, thick, yummy hot chocolate! It’s supposed to be a drink but it’s so thick that this could pass on as a dessert. It would actually be perfect with some strips or chips of their Dragon Claw cinnamon-y puff pastry on the side, now that would make it totally wicked!

Martabak.JPG

Martabak (Thick Sweet Indonesian Pancake filled with chocolate and nuts). It’s a simple pancake snack but so, sooo good! This is their BESTSELLER and they always run out of it so if it happens to be available on the time of your visit, make sure you order it. This is the perfect pampa-good mood!

I must say, I truly enjoyed the vibe of this place. Albeit a little strange because of the wizardry theme, it’s not creepy naman! It’s actually a fun hangout spot, fit for endless chicahan and food tripping! What turned me off lang was this one server who had long and dirty nails. It’s gross, super! Isn’t it SOP for people in the food services to have impeccable hygiene?! I hope the owners would check on their staff and impose a strict neatness and cleanliness policy!

As for the food, their menu is pretty limited and they could really benefit with a little tweaking but they have some really good items like the Adobo Flakes and Martabak that will make you come back to the place. Overall, it’s a cool place that has good potential!

By the way, every Wednesday they have this special treat for their four-eyed customers. It may seem nothing much, but then again who else does this? Ang cute diba!
