A Smart Way to Live …

By Gran13

SERENADE 2 SENIORS

A young woman walked around the lecture hall holding a glass of water while explaining stress management. Her audience was sure that she was going to ask; ‘Is this glass half full or half empty?’ But, she fooled them all asking instead; “How heavy is this glass of water?” The answers called out ranged from 8 ounces to 20 ounces, but her reply surprised them all.

“The absolute weight doesn’t matter at all. It depends on how long I hold it. If I hold it for one minute, it is not a problem, but if I hold it for an hour, my right arm will ache. If I hold it for one day, you might have to call an ambulance. In each case, it’s the same weight, but the longer I hold it, the heavier it will become.

And, it is exactly the same with stress. If we carry our burdens all the time, sooner or later, as each burden becomes increasingly heavy, we won’t be able to carry on. We need to put down our burdens until we are refreshed and then we will be ready to carry on, holding stress longer and in a better way each time. So, it’s a good idea to put down your burdens as early as you can in the evening, and pick them up the following day.
