A New Soap Substitute

A New Soap Substitute
Getting soft & hydrated skin in the winter becomes a serious pain for me and I am constantly trying new things to leave my skin feeling soft & moisturised. Which is why I wanted to write a blog post telling you about just this, a new and dare I say unusual way to conquer this battle. I was contacted by the lovely Jemma telling me about how people are ditching shower gels & soaps for Aqueous cream. For those of you, who haven't heard of Aqueous cream it is a light, non-greasy moisturiser that is made from a mixture of emulsifying ointments. It is generally speaking a moisturiser for people who suffer with eczema and dermatitis. As a sufferer from eczema I have heard all about Aqueous cream and i probably have around 3 tubes of the stuff knocking about the house - but when I have used it on my eczema as a moisturiser I can't say that I have enjoyed it or that is has worked. So when hearing that it can be used as a substitute for soap in the bath/shower & works better as a soap over a moisturiser, I agreed to take on the challenge of using it for 30 days & to really see if this product lives up to its moisturising name after all. Trying this out for the first time was a little bizarre as normally the texture for shower gels is light and can be moved around easily. Aqueous is obviously more like a moisturiser so its weird when the cream gets wet and it doesn't lather up like shower gel. I only used a little bit as I was a bit concerned about lots of the cream clogging up my drain. It works well as a soap as it contains anti bacterial agents. After the first week I found I found my skin to be softer than normal and my skin wasn't drying out as much I noticed this mainly on my legs and hands. For the following weeks I didn't use this everyday more like every other day because I had a flare up of eczema - Like I said before it doesn't seem to work for my eczema and I always want my eczema gone straight away so I use another product for that. Really I probably only used the aqueous cream as a soap substitute for around another 2 weeks. After these two weeks you can really notice the difference with the moisture being restored back into my skin, The only downside for me is I do really love a good smelling shower gel and aqueous cream doesn't really hit the spot for a good smelling product, but other than that I recommend this as it's great product throughout the winter months because the results are much better using this as a soap substitute rather than a moisturiser. It is one of those cheap as chips products that you can always have lying around in your house, So its definitely one to pick up. You can get this from most places that have a chemist. If you do try this let me know below. Do you have any dry skin problem busters - I would love to know thanks Leigh xoTWITTER | FACEBOOK | INSTAGRAM | BLOGLOVIN
