A Long Name For A Small Village

By Ingridd @cosytraveler

At the tourist information office of Vireux, Lars and I got some good news and some bad news.

Let’s start with the good news. Apparently, we were in the French Ardennes, an area which is almost unknown to tourists. If you love nature and good food, this is the place to be. The bad news? It was the hunting season, so we had to stay away from some of the forests. We received a free map where we could follow the so-called Green Track, which takes you to the most interesting places in the French Ardennes.

Our first stop was Montigny-sur-Meuse:

Impressive name, isn’t it? But it is actually a small village with less than 100 inhabitants, located between a railroad and the river Meuse. We were very eager to visit the local church, built in the 18th century and dedicated to Saint-Lambert, but is was closed due to renovation works.

In short: a cute village with a beautiful river right next to it. But more magnificent things were waiting for us.
