The host, Daniel "Ratatouille" Hepokoski will be doing his first long hike (on the PCT) and will be doing this podcast along the way. I know what he has in store and he has done a great job of interviewing local Oregon hikers with quality content and showing that sense of community. In this episode, he starts out interviewing Sage Clegg, a solo female trailblazer that I greatly admire and someday hope to overlap with more extensively. Just really happy to even share this episode with her. Best of luck to Ratatouille on the PCT! Click here, go to iTunes, or podcasts on your phone to listen. I start at the 27:45 mark and ramble on for ~40mins. Enjoy!
PresentationsThose of you that follow me on Facebook and Instagram have seen that I've been doing presentations regularly, but I haven't had time to post about them on the blog. They are equally exhausting as they are rewarding for me. I have now gotten into a groove of regulars that I will do each year if all goes to plan and I complete this summer's hikes. One of them is all the REIs in the area. I've really enjoyed those and often get to bring the trail to people who are not familiar with the blog and it's great to present to a new crowd.
I mentioned this a year ago, and have yet to make the leap, but I'm still seriously considering taking a month or so to do a "Triple Crown Tour" of national presentations. I am mentioning it again to put it in the universe and hopefully force myself to follow through on this in the coming year. What really brought it home was that I recently did my first Triple Crown presentation a few weeks ago at the ALDHA-West Winter Ruck backpacking clinic. It was a condensed version of what I would ideally like to present, but the content is there and it was a spark of something I know I could do on a bigger scale. Maybe if I keep saying it, I'll hold myself accountable and actually put the work in to make it happen in the next year...
First, and hopefully not the last, of the Triple Crown presentations...
With Squatch at the premiere.
Movie!A couple weekends ago was the premiere of Squatch's Flip Flop Flipped! I've mentioned before that it's the Appalachian Trail film that I am in a bit along with fellow hikers the Kallins, Jett Cat, and Lint. It was good fun and surreal to see myself unshowered on a big screen. It is now available for download or purchase on DVD/Bluray at Squatch's site. Squatch does a great job of showing that communal aspect of the trail and it was great fun to be part of that with him. I have to say my favorite part of the whole film is the Kallins (of course!). It's worth the purchase just for those scenes of such a wonderful family living and loving life! Perfect viewing for a rainy spring day:)
