I think Carl’s master plan was to put me into labor yesterday, but no such luck. We walked to the birthing center at 1:00 and made real good time at 30 minutes. I have a check up with my doctor. I am 36 weeks and all is well. Low blood pressure, lost .5lbs (which they didn’t like) and the best news of all she thinks the baby will be under 8lbs. Can you believe that? It made my day! My first bub was 8lb16oz and second was 9lb1oz so I just expected this one to be about the mid 9s. But I don’t really think doctors can predict the weight of babies. I thought we’d take a taxi after that but we decided it can’t be too much of a walk so we decided to walk to the US Consulate in downtown. I think it took us about 40 or 50 minutes. It’s tough work walking with little ones, we couldn’t bring the stroller because the sidewalks go from wide to narrow to non existent. there are also big holes in the paths everywhere; either covered up with plywood or nothing at all. We all got hot and sweaty and stopped by a frozen yogurt store for a break, we should have gone to the McDonalds down the road and saved $30. We finally made it to the US Consulate only to find out that yesterday was Presidents Day and it was closed – bugger! Carl needs to look into renewing his passport and we wanted to get all the paperwork in line for when the baby is born to get him/her US citizenship and passport. The bub will be Bahamian with a Bahamian passport but we would like to have dual citizenship. Feeling defeated we decided to head back to the boat, another 40 minute walk. Wags was in tears for the last 5 minutes and Pri said her legs hurt because she was so tired. I suffered in silence with my hips feeling like they were grinding on bone.
We all celebrated with a icy pole back at the boat. The girls were pretty much black when we got them home. You know kids they have to run their hands on everything. Fences, walls, trees, cars etc. We all felt like we’d been rolling in the gutter by the time we got back. We all wore shoes but our feet were still black from the streets. I don’t’ know whether its due to all the traffic or the fact it doesn’t rain much here in winter but Nassau is extremely dirty.
We all passed out early last night after much needed showers but I had a horrible nights sleep. My legs ached, my hips ached, I was hot and bugs kept biting me. But no labor. But I was glad of that, I was just too tired.
