21 Fashion Staples to Get Every Woman Through Her 20s

By Thecurlycasualista @curlycasualista
A few weeks ago while reading The Everygirl (do you read it? if not, you should start ASAP), I came across a post Danielle and Alaina had done in collaboration with Bradley Agather of Luella and June where they outlined twenty-one items that every girl in her twenties should own. Since I am now halfway through my twenties and a member of the working world, wardrobe staples are something I think about frequently. While the dress code for my office is relatively lax (read: nonexistent), I nevertheless want to dress somewhat professionally, as it shows that I take pride not only in myself, but in my work as well. I also, for the first time in my life, sort of have the means to actually purchase quality fashion staples that will last. So this post couldn't have come at a better time!
Using The Everygirl's awesome Handbook, I found the list of their staples and was able to compare it to my closet to see what I have. To my surprise, I was able to check off a lot of what is on the list (patting myself on the back here). However, a lot of the things that I have from the list are older and not of the best quality, so they are in need of some replacing. So I'm giving myself the following goals: purchase what staples you don't have from the list and replace/tailor/fix those things that you already have that need to be replaced/tailored/or fixed! 21 Fashion Staples to Get Every Woman Through Her 20s 21 Fashion Staples to Get Every Woman Through Her 20s
As you can see, I have many of the things on the list. However there are some that I don't. And those things I'm missing are things I could really use - like a weekender for when I fly to and from Massachusetts!
So, in light of the above-mentioned tasks, here are what I am setting out to do:
1. Replace some of my ratty ballet flats. - I'm obsessed with Steve Maddens Heaven flats. They're comfy, look cute, come in fun colors, and aren't too expensive. However, they stretch out and due to all the walking I do, take a beating. It's time to replace a few of my pairs. 2. Buy black heels. - NOTE: I do own black heels. They're just of the "5"platform wear for a night out and not be able to stand the next day" variety. Time to get a practical pair that I can wear to work and on interviews. 3. Buy more striped tees. - I love them, they're a staple. The end. 4. Get another LBD. I have a black and gray one, and I need another for some variety. 5. Take my nice black skirt, which is now too large, to the tailor and have it taken in. 6. Also take a couple of my blazers to the tailor AND purchase a black one.  7. Buy a pretty bra. - I'm totally utilitarian with my lingerie. Yup, I said it. Totally practical. Maybe it's time to change that. 8. Buy a clutch that doesn't have Coach "c's" all over it. 9. GET A WEEKENDER. I want this one. I want this too, and it can double as a weekender/carry on. 10. Buy some gold jewelry. - Real gold. Not the gold that tarnishes in a month.
I don't think that these tasks are unattainable (I mean, there's a dry-cleaner/tailor at the end of my block, no excuses there), and I'll definitely keep you posted on how they're coming along! signature
