Season 3 mainly follows the battle at Kings Landing and centres around the war of the five Kings. All four Kings in Westeros believe they can claim the Iron Throne. Adding in Robb Stark seeking vengeance for his father's death.
Throughout this third season we really do get some fantastic character development from start to finish. That is something I am really appreciating more with this re-watch than I probably did the first time round. I think watching them again but all in a row makes you remember everything about the characters. Having to wait for that year or eighteen months in between you forget to just how good it really is.
The Night's Watch who were attacked by the White Walkers at the end of season 2 are now spread all over the place and attempting to get back to the Wall. Jon Snow is taken before Rayder who is the King beyond the Wall and pledges his loyalty to the Wildlings. Mainly to survive but might he just have a thing for one of them?
Sansa is still living the greatest nightmare from all of the characters being trapped at King's Landing. Daenerys is slowing building up her army and seems to be very much out-of-the-way and not really thought about by the rest of the kingdoms, along with her dragons!
One of the best storylines throughout this season has to be the relationship built up between Brienne and Jamie Lannister as she is escorting him back to King's Landing. I find that friendship really shows that you never know when you might just relate to someone who you never felt possible at all.
Arya Stark is easily one of my favourite characters and her development from season to season is one of the best. She is growing up and managing to survive as she attempts to get back to her family members. In particular Robb and her mother! The worst thing is knowing how episode nine is going to go and I honestly forgot just how brutal that really was.
Theon is captured and brutally tortured by unknown people, the reality of that is not going to be pleasant at all. Even though I truly hated him in the first two seasons for easily turning, watching those scenes with him again are rather tough!
Another good character development is with Bran and the gift he seems to have when they meet twins Jolene and Meera they set off on a rather different quest. This sets everything up nicely in all honesty as this is when it begins to feel rather Lord of the Rings like, with the different groups in different areas fighting their own battles and we move swiftly between them throughout the ten episodes.
Ramsey Bolton is revealed and we have yet another horrific character to go along with King Joffrey! It really is tough to work out just who is the most evil between the pair. I think the shocking part in this season is Sansa being forced to marry Tyrion who did not want it either but he is very kind towards her. Considering he is deeply in love with someone else.
This season really does move at a great pace and it has some truly shocking moments which are not any easier to watch a second time around!
