The Idea of You (2024) Review

A 40 year old single mother named Solene just happens to meet Hayes Campbell the lead singer of popular boyband August Moon and an unexpected romance begins, with plenty of tough moments.

⭐️⭐️

Solene was very content with her life and entering a very different phase, happy with her job and healing from the broken marriage whilst raising her teenage daughter Izzy. When he ex-husband let’s their daughter and her friends down with a music festival, she goes with them instead. Accidently going in Hayes’ trailer before a meet and greet where sparks fly between the pair.

With Hayes being so famous they do try and keep the relationship all hidden, but that was never going to be an easy task at all. It does highlight how difficult it can be for a celebrity when trying to live normal parts of life. I guess that could be why it just works for famous people to also date other famous people? It certainly feels that way when watching this film.

The thing is though theres nothing wrong with an age gap relationship at all and the way that Solene is then treated due to online trolls and comments is quite frankly horrific. I don’t know which part I thought was worse, her ex-husband who was with someone else not being happy about it (men eh?) or the random comment from a mother saying her teenage daughter was devastated, like really?!?! Then obviously trying to protect Izzy who was ok with it to begin with, until abuse then turned to her.

I adore Anne Hathaway and thought she was great in the film, but I just felt Nicholas Galitzine was ok. The way the characters were I could understand why he wanted to be with her, but not really the other way round as he didn’t really have much about him.

It was a shame as it did have the potential to be so much better than it turns out overall.
