Where’d You Go, Bernadette (2019) Review

Posted on the 18 May 2024 by Caz @LetsGoToTheMov7

Bernadette had sacrficed her creative passions for her family and being a mother to Bee, but will this be what she needs or will it just cause problems considering she hadn’t really left the house after becoming a recluse.

⭐️⭐️⭐️

Bernadette was a leading architect but everything came crashing down for her when she was unable to come to terms with an award winning house she had constructed was demolished. Following this she developed severe depression and became a reclusive. Through this she did develop a special relationship with her daughter Bee, who is now 15. Her marriage feels strained with her husband Elgie.

Bee wants a family trip to Antarctica as a reward for some good grades, which they agree to but as the trip grows closer Bernadette’s behavior becomes increasly odd and strange. Her anxiety and insomnia both increase and she attempts to increase the drugs she is taking.

The film highlights just how easy it could be to slip into those feels of anxiety when something goes wrong in your life, then attempting to deal with changes and bringing yourself back from that is never going to be an easy task. Cate Blanchett was the reason I decided to watch this one, and quite frankly I would watch her in anything. She has to be one of the greatest actresses of her generation and each and every role you know she’s going to be fantastic. If it wasn’t for her performance this would have been a lower rating.
