Your New Favorite Cocktail

By Lilveggiepatch @Lilveggiepatch

Apologies to anyone who wanted to comment on my last (slightly controversial) post. For some reason, the comments section was closed, but I’ve fixed the problem.

How’s your long weekend been going? I’ve been flying solo as B, my parents, and many of my friends are out of town. It’s given me ample time to find a new TV show (I LOVE Revenge!) and, more importantly, spend time with some of my favorite people who were in town.

It’s moving season, and one of my friends just moved into a new apartment. It’s mere steps from the river, with a breathtaking view of both the Manhattan and Brooklyn bridges. Sometimes I forget how big this city of mine is…

I saw a new movie, Little Birds , that’s been getting some interesting press. The writer/director, Elgin James, has a really intriguing biography that flavors the film, and I was lucky enough to attend a Q & A session with him after the movie to learn more.

My friend Kalle and I found a new-to-us restaurant in the West Village called Soy and Sake. It’s an Asian-fusion vegetarian restaurant right on 7th Avenue… so convenient, yet somehow it’s only now on my radar!

Kalle and I always look for good deals, and Soy and Sake had a great $14 bento box. We both ordered tofu teriyaki; it also came with salad, vegetable gyoza (dumplings), edamame, (faux-fish) California roll, and steamed vegetables.

And a delicious bowl of miso soup. I have a huge container of miso in my refrigerator, but I always forget to use it! Miso makes a humble, nutritious and comforting soup; I’m going to be sure to make some when cooler weather arrives.

I also wanted to share my newest drink obsession with you: an easy, “skinny” margarita. )

I love fancy drinks, but I hate when they’re loaded with unnecessary sugar and food coloring. Lately, when I go out, I’ve been ordering this healthy (or healthier) version of your favorite summer cocktail. It cuts down significantly on the sugar content by nixing the sour mix (which is usually pre-made with fake ingredients, anyway) and tastes as good, if not better, than the day-glow green version you’ll find at your local dive.

“SKINNY” MARGARITA ON THE ROCKS

Serves 1

  • 2 oz tequila
  • 4 oz club soda
  • squirt of fresh lime juice

Yes, it’s that simple. You really won’t miss the sugar, as tequila is naturally plenty sweet. Drink up, and enjoy the last days of summer!
