You Will Be Ok

By Survivingana @survivingana

Sophie has taken the plunge and accepted her counsellor’s offer of weekly appointments. Talk about a total turn-a-round, but a great answer to prayer. Whether she is doing this for herself or she feels she has too or for me/counsellor is unknown. But the outcome will still benefit her and help her grow.

She met yesterday with the counselor and even took her art work along for show and tell. It is a good way of starting conversations. Sophie is highly visual so using her art is a great way of expressing herself and a focal point for her counselor.

So the ground rules got laid.

1. At no time is Sophie to feel unsafe and to state when she does.

2. Do is slowly, bit by bit.

3. Constantly let her know ‘you will be ok’.

And of course, mom has been positioned as full back. I will be kept in the loop of what is basically going on (without breaching confidence), to be there when needed, and to pick up the pieces at home. At the moment she is mildly-medium depressed but that can change very quickly, as also can ED behavior set in. I naturally/automatically agreed, however I have been doing a lot of thinking. When I get my head fully around my thoughts, I will write another post.

What I am wondering is, because of Sophie’s personality and asperger, whether when she starts delving into this she may find the mountain she has created is not really a mountain. More of a small hill. I am wondering whether all the running and hiding has made it into the elephant in the corner. None of us will know until the layers start to peel back and reveals what is underneath. I am so equally wondering if there is much more hidden than even I have ever guessed at.

Brave girl walking.
