You Can Do Magic by America.

Posted on the 02 November 2012 by Melodicwisdom

So this is my first post on America as a duo, guitarist Dan Peek had left a few years prior. I watched the music video for the first time today and I have to admit, it was weird not seeing him. I had no idea they had a whole other band playing either. I also assumed they wrote the song but it was actually written by singer-songwriter, Russ Ballard. Though the song is good, there’s certainly no magic.

You Can Do Magic was released as a single in October of 1982 from their tenth album, View from the Ground. It spent 2o weeks on the chart, making #8 on Billboard’s Hot 100. It also went to #5 on Adult Contemporary. Internationally, it made #12 in New Zealand, #20 in Ireland, #30 in Australia, #37 in Canada and #59 in the UK. You can still hear it occasionally on Sirius radio. I also heard it on a radio station when I was in Ireland this past September.

By the way, yesterday would have been Dan Peek’s 62nd birthday. Happy Birthday, Dan. Wish you were still here…

Above is the official music video.
