Huge addition to mobility in the Twin Cities.
Our "metro area" took a big step on Saturday, June14. We were a great city before, but with two great cities and two wonderful Light Rail Transit (LRT) lines we have arrived! Minneapolis/Saint Paul metro area has big city credibility! Now our people can use public transportation nearly every where in the cities.
This is incredible! We should be very proud.
The Star Tribune cleverly labeled their article in their Sunday paper as a "Train of Two Cities". Much excitement was felt on Saturday and Sunday, June 14-15, with free rides all along the new Metro Transit's Green Line.
The Green Line trains will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Trips will operate every 10 minutes throughout the day, every 10-15 minutes evenings and every 30-60 minutes overnight.
Normal rates are $2.25 rush hours, $1.75 all other times. More info: www.metrotransit.org.

It took 30 years of talks and $957 million of public money to realize the completion of this line that connects the Twin Cities. It connects the two downtowns as well as the East and West campuses of the University of Minnesota. The 11-mile route rolls down University Avenue for much of the trip.
On Saturday more than 45,000 riders jumped on the trains between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., far exceeding what’s expected to be normal Saturday ridership. Regular ridership will take throughout the metro for jobs, events, and attractions. To see the full LRT Plan for the metro area click here.
