Xiaomi Announces MIUI 8 Global ROM: Public Beta July 11, Stable by August 16

Hugo Barra, Xiaomi’s VP announced the launch of Global MIUI 8 ROM at an event held in New Delhi along with the launch of Mi Max. The first public beta will be available on July 11, however, this version may have bugs and may be unstable. You may want to wait till the month of August’ 16 to get your hands on the stable version of the ROM.

MIUI 8 supported deviesMIUI 8 beta would be available to owners of the following devices: Mi Max, Mi Note, Mi 5, Mi 4, Mi 4i, Mi 3, Mi 2, Redmi Note Prime, Redmi Note 3, Redmi Note 2, Redmi Note, Redmi 2 Prime, Redmi 2 and Redmi 1s. Updates will be available OTA via the Mi Community or MIUI forum.

Barra said the company has partnered with Mobikwik for one-tap mobile and DTH recharge via MIUI 8 in India, and users will get 10 percent cash back once a month – 50 percent for the new users. Other new features include Dual apps, Hindi T9 prediction, smart Caller ID, free ringtones from Hungama.

MIUI 8 will also have very useful and nifty features like Mi Cloud Photo Sync, which keeps low-resolution images locally, and uploads the original to the cloud, freeing up to 90% of image space from the device; new video editing option allows users to edit videos and add video effects easily; scrolling screenshots and Quick ball – a hovering button that stays on screen at all times and has easy shortcuts to frequently used apps and functions.
