Not sure how this song came to me today. I’ve had trouble thinking of songs to write about since I’ve been in Ireland. All of a sudden, out of nowhere, the chorus from this entered my mind. I remember a friend in high school had the lyrics in his profile and I really liked this one particular line, “Well I never claimed to understand what happens after dark but my fingers catch the sparks at the thought of touching you.” I guess I think of that guy whenever I hear it and maybe high school too.
Wounded was released in November of 1999 from the band’s second album, Blue. The music and lyrics were written by lead singer Stephan Jenkins and former lead guitarist Kevin Cadogan.
Jenkins once talked about a song in an interview: “I think that Wounded is, so far, at least on those two albums [1997's Third Eye Blind, and 1999's Blue], is the best song we’ve ever done. I think it’s like the most quintessential song on either of the albums”
In 2006, the song was featured on their greatest hits album. It was also covered by the rock band, He is Legend. To listen to their version, click HERE.
