Wouldn’t It Be Nice by The Beach Boys.

Posted on the 24 June 2012 by Melodicwisdom

Another moment from The Wonder Years. I always think of the episode when the Arnold family goes to the beach during summer vacation. Kevin meets & falls for a girl named Teri. This song is played while they are hanging out at the boardwalk. I remember them getting pictures taken in a photo booth and Kevin couldn’t stop looking at them…haha.

Wouldn’t It Be Nice was the opening track to The Beach Boys’ eleventh album, Pet Sounds. It was released as a single on July 18, 1966. The lyrics, composed by Brian Wilson and Tony Asher, describe the frustrations of youth: wanting to be older because they have to wait for most of the things they really want. The music, also composed by Wilson, consists of accordions and ethereal guitars giving it a beautiful sound which blends perfectly with the lyric tone.

It went to #8 on Billboard’s Hot 100 and to #2 in the UK and Australia. To see the scene from The Wonder Years, click HERE & go to 2:15.
