Most times we relate with people based on our assumptions about them. If we assume that they are kind we relate with them differently than if we assumed they were mean. If we assume they were smart or rich we relate with them differently than if we assumed they were dumb or poor. Sometimes, it never even occurs to us we have made this assumption until we're suddenly surprised by a turn in the person which does not match our assumption. When this happens, we might try to adjust our assumptions or we might insist the subject returned to meet our assumption so that we hold on to the control we had over them.I always assume a black and white floral skirt would do lovely with an equally black and white top. Maybe one day I will prove my assumption wrong and wear a bold color top with this skirt.
