With or Without You was released as a single in March of 1987 from the band’s fifth album, The Joshua Tree. It topped the charts at #1 in the United States, Canada, and Ireland. It also made the top 5 in the Netherlands, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom.
The lyrics were written by Bono and drew around the struggles in a relationship. Sometimes giving all you can just isn’t enough for the other person. However, it’s not so easy to walk away because you can’t see your life without the person but you also don’t see it with them either. You’re in a rut.
I decided to share just the audio and lyrics for this one. I think it’s one of those songs where a live performance just doesn’t capture the emotions of the original.
