Windstorm

By Bertyc @bertyc
It’s 12:00 now and we’ve just recovered from a windstorm. The team was all asleep while Cassidy and I were off taking photos of a brush fire down the road. We returned to find everyone awake and running about like ants. A front had blown through and we had to secure down the car and camp. We’ve moved a couple of our support vehicles to block the wind hitting Schulich I. Tape has been applied to a couple of her seams for extra protection and to keep any moisture out (although we don’t expect rain). We pulled up the weather maps and it doesn’t look too threatening.
Now, the car is safe and that’s great – but the rest of camp is not. Our tents needed extra protection and all of our gear had to be secured. We were able to move one tent into protection behind the campervan – but the other tent has no place to go. As a result – Jason, Josh and Cassidy are all sleeping inside a tent that is not put up. The wind is too fierce.
However, on a brighter note, we are more inland and so the temperature cools more at night. It’s close to 40 degrees in the daytime here, but we’re seeing temperatures easily fall to 25 with this wind. Cloud cover has filled in the entire sky – let’s hope it’s gone tomorrow.
Camp is quiet now – everyone is asleep. Now it’s my turn to find shelter from the storm.
