The Associated Press reports that the U.S. government is reviewing last week’s sale of Hilton’s Waldorf Astoria hotel to a Chinese insurance company, due to security reasons, including the fact that the deal includes a renovation, in which spying devices could conceivably be placed in the rooms.
Part of the security concern lies in the fact that the President and other important people apparently stay at the hotel.
3 Concerns That We Have If The Sale Goes Through
1. Presumably, if the President has to stay at another hotel, what will become of his HHonors points? Might we say, the Hilton Times Square is very convenient to Applebee’s. And at only 80,000 HHonors points a night, we’re certain the President can spend at least a weekend there after many nights earning points at the Waldorf Astoria Presidential Suite.
2. The $1.5 Billion that the Chinese is spending on the hotel is $1.5 Billion that won’t be spent to buy the Trump Tower and rename it something else, like the “Tower-close-to-the-Apple-Store-for-which-China-proudly-manufactures-products.”
3. If the deal goes through and you use WiFi in the middle of New York City, the hotel may be able to spy on you, in addition to all of the identity thieves and other people already spying on you. That’s a raw deal if the hotel, like most luxury hotels, charges you for the luxury of WiFi, which is free at the local Howard Johnson. And you didn’t even know Howard Johnson was still a thing!
