Why More U.S. Kids Getting Type 1 AND Type 2 Diabetes

Diabetes is a complex disease. The causes are numerous. When blood glucose or blood sugar becomes high, then the person becomes diabetic. Carbohydrates from digested food converts into glucose (a form of sugar), which enters into the bloodstream. The pancreas creates insulin. With the help of insulin, glucose gets absorbed by the body cells. When the body can’t make enough insulin or does not use insulin effectively, then this causes to develop diabetes. If enough insulin is not created in the body or the body does not respond properly to insulin created, then glucose remains in blood instead of getting absorbed in the blood, which leads to diabetes. High blood sugar damages the blood vessel which causes more diseases like heart disease, dental and kidney disease.

Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes

Type 1 and Type 2 are the main two types of the diabetes. Type 1 diabetes occurs due to lack of insulin. In type 1 diabetes, insulin making cells in pancreas get destroyed by the body’s immune system. So the body does not make insulin. Insulin helps sugar or glucose get into the body cells. Due to lack of the insulin, sugar remains in blood. Where as in Type 2 diabetes, the body makes insulin, but the body does not respond properly to present insulin. It is common type of diabetes. Type 2 diabetes is caused due to insulin resistance, that means liver cells, body muscle and fat does not use insulin effectively. Obesity is the reason behind the Type 2 diabetes.

Type 1 Diabetes commonly found in teens and children. Type 2 diabetes is called as adult diabetes, as it is commonly found in adult. In the past, it was considered that Type 2 diabetes is the middle aged disease. But now a day, it is observed that teens are also getting Type 2 diabetes, due to obesity. Once it was rare in teens, but Type 2 diabetes is seen in obese and overweight children. Children who are overweight or who are inactive or who does not eat well or have a history of diabetes, have a higher risk of diabetes.

As per the research, rate of teens getting Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes has increased rapidly, because of the rate of obesity has increased rapidly in U.S. wrong eating habits, excessive use of electronic gadgets, lifestyle, etc. is making children obese and thus, leading to be at stake of diabetes. Poor diet, low activity and excess weight around waist, increases the risk of getting diabetes.

Type 1 diabetes is mainly caused due to a combination of environmental factors and genetic susceptibility. Overweight is one of the reasons behind Type 2 diabetes, but it does not mean that who have Type 2 diabetes is overweight. Genes and family background are the other reasons behind this.

Environmental factor and genes causes the diabetes in teens. Children who have Type 1 diabetes, need to take a insulin. Whereas with proper diet and exercise, Type 2 diabetes can be prevented. If teens have diabetes, then healthy diet and exercise is important for them. Staying fit is also necessary. It is indeed essential to make kids aware about the disease.
