Which World Book Day Book Will You Choose?

Posted on the 05 March 2020 by Booksocial

The list is out, the vouchers have been printed, so all that’s left is for you to decide which World Book Day Book will be coming home with you today. We’ve read them all and give you our recommendations:

Picture flats – Supertato: Books Are Rubbish

Supertato

It’s not very often we recommend ‘books are rubbish’ but this picture flat from the Supertato series was too hard to resist. After all who doesn’t want to read about Evil Pea!

“It’s night-time in the supermarket, and all the veggies are happily reading their brilliant books. Well, not quite all… The Evil Pea thinks books are rubbish! Is there anyone who can prove him wrong?”

Early Readers – Amelia Fang and the Bookworm Gang

Amelia Fang

Amelia Fang is one of our top picks for early readers at any time of year so we were thrilled when we heard it was going to be a World Book Day book.

“A plucky little vampire who’s just like you and me . . . Amelia Fang is feeling very nervous about reading out loud in front of her class. So she decides to practice with her friends in Loose Limb Library. But when they get there, the gang discovers big bite marks in every book! Bookworms have invaded and they chomp through EVERYTHING and EVERYONE in their path. How will Amelia save all the books – and her friends – before it’s too late?”

Middle Grade – The Day We Met the Queen

The Day We Met the Queen

This is a follow on from The Boy at the Back of the Class. I repeat this is a follow on from The Boy at the Back of the Class! Our children’s Book Club gave TBATBOTC 5 out of 5 Tintin pencil cases when they read it and we think TDWMTQ will be just as popular.

“Ten-year-old Ahmet has become the Most Famous Refugee Boy in the World. In fact, he’s so famous even the queen wants to meet him – and his four best friends! So they’re off to Buckingham Palace, with a list of questions for her and one special challenge: will she help more refugee children like Ahmet? But when their journey is unexpectedly interrupted by an old enemy, it will take some quick thinking and an ingenious plan to make it to the palace – and the queen – on time.”

Young Adult – Awesome Guide to Getting Good at Stuff

Awesome Guide

At last a YA that isn’t about depression, racism, suicide or transgender. Just about how you can better yourself. We loved it and you will too.

Bestselling author Matthew Syed is here to bust some myths wide open. So if you believe that …

You’re either born with talent or you’re not
Mistakes = Disaster!
Everyone is hopelessly better than me
… prepare to have your mind BLOWN.

Find confidence, resilience and determination in this hilarious and practical guide by learning from the best, getting over failures and nailing your practice.
So what are you waiting for? It’s time to get really good at stuff.”

Bestest ever selection

Those are our choices but it was a tough one – we haven’t even mentioned Matt Haig, Alex Rider, Kid Normal, A Murder Most Horrid or Bing. It certainly feels like this year’s books are the best ever and we cant wait to hear which World Book Day book you are going to pick.

Your child should be given a Book Token at School which can be redeemed in all good book shops between 27th February – 29 March 2020.
