Edgar Allen Poe – the blurb

Edgar Allan Poe is regarded as one of the foremost American writers. The stories, poems and novels included here span the breadth of Edgar Allan Poe’s unparalleled imagination. From the gothic horror of the classic short story The Tell-Tale Heart and his macabre poem The Raven to the enticing murder mystery, The Murders in the Rue Morgue, and other works such as The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket, this fascinating collection showcases Poe’s lyrical writing and masterful plotting. Mysterious, morbid and undeniably fascinating, the tales collected here are a perfect introduction to America’s master of horror.

Mr Gothic Horror

Having never read any Poe before but read many a reference to him I decided it was probably time to do something about it. Always one to dive in at the deep end I purchased a 900 odd paged hardback and began to tackle his back catalog. I very quickly became familiar with Poe’s style, short, gothic, and dark. All his greats are included in the book and rather than read it all at once I dipped in and out, the short stories allowing the book to be put down and left for a couple of weeks before being picked up again. If I hadn’t done this I think I would have found it quite repetitive as it was very one tone. It’s a pretty enough book however to lounge about on a shelf whilst waiting for your next dip.
