What to see in Greece?

Greece encourages visitors with its diversity. You can tour the continental part or visit at least some of the huge number of Greek islands. The country is surrounded by the blue waters of the Aegean, Cretan and Ionian seas, which are dominated by hills with picturesque buildings. Every step we come across numerous traces of the ancient inhabitants of these lands - witnesses of Greek power.

The capital is Athens, encouraging visitors to visit the monuments so numerous that they create an area in the style of an archaeological museum. At the Acropolis we will watch, among others Parthenon and Propylaea. This is undoubtedly a must-see of every trip. Just like the Theater of Dionysus, the temple of Athena or the temple of Hephaestus. In addition to the ruins of ancient buildings, it is also worth seeing exhibits that are exhibited at the National Archaeological Museum. It is one of the world's most important institutions of this type.

Thessaloniki with beautiful Byzantine churches, such as Agios Dimitros or a copy of the famous building from Constantinople - Hagia Sofia are also the tourist showcase of Greece. However, the city's symbol is the White Tower erected on the waterfront during the reign of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent. In the distance there is the famous Olympus - the mythological seat of the Greek gods. Thessaloniki is the administrative capital of Greek Macedonia. The dispute over the nationality of this region, as well as about the name itself, has been going on between Greece and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia for many years.

During our tour Meteora should be a must stop. These are massifs of rocks majesticly towering over the surrounding area, among which there is a complex of Orthodox monasteries. Before this place became a tourist attraction, the monks lived in isolation from the rest of society. The products they needed to live were delivered by ropes. Today, the open part of the monastery can be reached on foot thanks to the stone stairs.

What Greece?

Attractions of the Peloponnese

The Peloponnese is also worth a visit. It is here that some of the most famous archaeological monuments of Greece are located: Olimpia, Mycenae, Epidaurus, Corinth and Mystra. The Peloponnese is classified as a peninsula, but it is de facto an island. The plans of the Corinthian and later also Roman rulers were finally implemented by nineteenth-century engineers. They have dug up the Corinth Canal to date separating the peninsula from the mainland.

The fascinating history of Greece as the cradle of European civilization combined with a warm climate explain why it is so popular among tourists. And when we add to the above information about the Greek islands - with particular emphasis on Crete and Rhodes - definitely enough for encouragement to visit.
