Skiing is a fun family activity and a nice little getaway, particularly if you live where it doesn’t snow, here are a few handy guidelines on what to pack.
Clothes
Make sure you bring appropriate clothing, and that you pack enough to last you the entirety of your trip. You don’t want to be caught in the middle of your trip having to re-wear your unwashed clothing because you’ve run out. Some cold-weather clothes you should consider bringing: sweaters, turtlenecks, undershirts, a snow jacket, and even long johns, depending on how cold it will be.
Gear
If you have your own ski and snow gear, make sure you bring them along. This includes skis, snowboards and their respective boots, ski poles, helmets and snow goggles. Rental prices for snow gear at resorts can get a little pricey, so it’s always best to bring your own if you can, particularly if you’re on a budget.
Don’t forget accessories, either. Gloves, goggles and helmets are must-haves when hitting the slopes. It’s also important to remember protecting yourself against the sun. Just because it’s snowing doesn’t mean that you can’t still get a burn in daylight. Some gear you might want to consider bringing to protect yourself and your family from the sun include: sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hydration pack. The cold can also affect your skin, so be sure to bring lip balm and moisturiser to keep your skin from drying out.
Other necessities
While packing, you may have your mind focused on including items related to your snow trip, but it’s important to remember to pack the other essentials as well. Be sure to bring along any travel documents like tickets or booking confirmations, so you don’t get stuck on the way to your destination. If you’re going overseas, make sure everyone has their passports and any other travel paraphernalia you might need. If you’re traveling with kids, it might be a good idea to bring something along to entertain them, like a deck of cards or a gaming console.
And of course, don’t forget to bring your camera to capture the happy memories of your family ski holiday!
