WHAT I PACKED FOR BALI: Carry-On

A lot of you may be wondering, since I’m enjoying my birthday abroad, What did I pack in my carry-on luggage?

I know what I’m like on flights, my skin gets really dehydrated and chapped. My hair and makeup I don’t really bother with too much because planes aren’t exactly the place to look glamourous. I just make sure I wash my hair the night before with hydrating shampoo and conditioner (my favorite is the Original Mineral Hydrate & Conquer Shampoo and Conditioner, $29.95 each 350mL) and then tie it up in a really high top-knot.

So, in flight I’m really focusing on my skin, making sure it’s hydrated at all times and when traveling into a warmer climate than the one I’m leaving, making sure I’m applying enough SPF.
Also, I am aware that some of these are very similar, but for those who don’t know me, I like to have options.

NOTE: I didn’t have these in my backpack when I actually checked in. These are products I carried with me ON and during our travels around.

EOS ‘Lemon Drop’ Lip Balm SPF 15, $8.99
For those who have tired the ESO lip balm spheres you’d know they’re not creamy. They do condition the lips but they’re not sticky, greasy and really does hydrate your lips. One of the best lip balms I’ve tried and are available on the market today.
I decided to pack this one because it smells like sweet lemonade and has SPF 15. Perfect to have on the go and it’s probably one of the easiest lip products to apply in flight.
Available from BosaBeauty.com.

SunSense Lip Balm SPF 30+, $4.99 (15g)
One of the best brands in terms of sun protection is SunSense, who do a wide range of sunscreen that covers all types of skin.
This has been one product I’ve always carried with me in my beach bag. But unlike other lip balms with SPF it is a little white and thick when applied. I like this product because it has a lip applicator so you don’t have to dip your fingers in it. SunSense Lip Balm SPF 50+ is now available for $4.99. I haven’t tried it yet but I’m sure it will do an exceptional job.
Available from Priceline and Chemist Warehouse. (Price may vary.)

Kosmea Moisturising Lotion SPF 30, $44.95 (50mL)
Kosmea is fast becoming one my favorite skincare brands and I really can’t fault their products. I’m a HUGE fan of their rosehip oil (one of the best I’ve tried) so naturally their other products are going to be amazing.
I use this daily before I apply my makeup and I find that it doesn’t leave a white cast all over your face and it keeps your skin moisturised throughout the day. So, if you’re in the market to have a no fuss moisturiser with SPF, it’s worth your time to try this product.
Available from David Jones and anywhere that sells Kosmea products.

SunSense Sport Sunscreen SPF 50+, $8.99 (75g)
This was a product I kept with me at all times during our trip, so I thought I’d include this with my carry-on. Joe also carried his own tube.
Again, this is part of the SunSense range that I love and it’s been a regular product in my beach bag during Summer. It’s thick, creamy, it does leave a white cast but I don’t mind it. It’s one of the best sunscreens I’ve ever used and now that it comes in SPF 50, it works a lot better.
Available from Priceline, Chemist Warehouse and anyway that sells SunSense products. (Price may vary.)

Mecca Cosmetica Lip De-Luscious SPF 25, $28.00 (12g)
I decided to pack this with my carry-on because it’s been my most reached lip balm in the month leading to our trip. It’s definitely more of a luxury product than a necessity, even though it does have SPF in it. (Just a coincidence.) This now comes in new packaging, so it might not look like this if you go looking for it.
Available at Mecca Cosmetica stores and Mecca Cosmetica counters at Myer.

Aesop Resureection Rinse-Free Hand Wash, $9.95 (50mL)
Having this product was definitely a no-brainer. I carry this in my makeup bag everyday and it is by far my holy grail hand sanitiser. I bought four of these for our trip (2 each for Joe and I) and I carried these with me the whole time we were there.
Unlike the traditional hand sanitiser, this isn’t harsh on your skin. Others have so much alcohol and dries out my hands so much. This product doesn’t do that and leaves the skin smooth and smelling of fresh citrus. One 50mL bottle will last you FOREVER because you don’t need a lot.

Kosmea Rose Hand Cream, $19.95 (50mL)
This was a last minute purchase because I realised I didn’t have anything for my paws. I’ve been using KORA Organics Daily Hand Cream, $39.90 (90mL) for years and while I still love and use that particular hand cream, I needed to travel with something a little budget friendly and lately I’ve been into the rose scented products.
I’m glad I packed this hand cream because it did wonders on my hands in flight. Loved the scent and kept my skin hydrated for the length of the trip.

Kosmea Hydrating Rosewater Mist, $19.95 (125mL)
OK, so I wasn’t allowed to have this on carry-on but I thought I’d mention it as I did carry it everywhere with me while we were overseas.
Rosewater mist is essential to refresh your skin and when sprayed over your makeup during the day, it awakens your skin a lot.
I’m LOVING Kosmea products lately, especially when their products are very budget friendly.

TIP: All cosmetics/makeup needs to packed in clear zip-lock bags. I used the Glad Snap Lock Resealable Bags (commonly used for lunches) 18cm x 17cm size (second smallest available), but you can use 20cm x 20cm size zip-lock bag.

Sunglasses, $30.00*
I only wear two styles of sunglasses, aviators and wayfarers, and on this such occasion I decided that the wayfarer style was best thing to take with me on our trip. I like wayfarers because they don’t have those annoying prongs where they sit on the bridge of the nose.
I bought these at City Beach, which is store with many different surf brands. I bought a lot of things from there for this trip and I managed to save a lot of money for it as well.
I bought these on sale and of course, in the matching liliac to go along with my travel tags, journal and travel wallet. (Yes, I do things like that.)

Lonely Planet Bali & Lombok Travel Guide, $25.95
Since Bali was our destinaton, naturally I bought this as reference. When Joe and I decided on Bali, I went online and bought this straight away. I can’t even tell you how grateful that I bought this book because it’s been an endless source of tips and ideas of things to do in Bali.
I buy all my books from Booktopia.com.au because they have the best prices (all their books are heavily discounted), they have a great flat rate price for delivery ($6.95 to most Australian locations) and your order always arrives within 3-4 days. I’ve never had a bad experience with these guys and from time to time they do offer free delivery.

#Girlboss (Paperback), $23.95
So, this was a book I decided to bring with me for the flight. A lot of my friends and followers on Instagram and Twitter have recommended this book because it’s an easy read.
Again, I bought this from Booktopia.

I also packed my iPad, travel journal and travel wallet, both purchased from Typo.

All of this was packed in my Volcom backpack I bought on sale from City Beach.
