What I’m Reading Now

Whatcha reading?

Due to constant commuting between work and school, and a little quality time with the CrossRamp at the gym, I’ve gotten quite a bit of reading done in the last couple months! Reading will always be my favorite solo activity… a world without books is not a world I want to live in. These are a few I’ve read and liked, and please feel free to share your own! I have pretty strong feelings about not giving anything away, but I’m linking to each book’s goodreads page so you can make that decision your own.

What I Had Before I Had You . I am 30 pages from finishing this, and I don’t want it to end. Might be my favorite book of the year so far.

The Goldfinch. It’s on everyone’s list, as it should be! It took me a little while to get into, but once I did, I hardly noticed it was 775 pages long.

The Silent Wife. I wouldn’t call this “the next Gone Girl” as it was marketed to be, but there are some pretty great twists in this story of a marriage. I read it while I was in Israel, and often read some parts aloud that I felt particularly indignant about.

Play It As It Lays. I was never able to get into The Year of Magical Thinking, which so many have recommended to me. I loved this, Joan Didion’s second novel, written in 1970.

The Scar Boys. There’s some really great Young Adult fiction out there, friends! I really liked this one.

Up next:

The Luminaries

The Patrick Melrose Novels (I read the first, Never Mind … it’s shockingly nasty, and I felt awkward and disgusted and horrified and loved every second of it.)

The Engagements. I’ve read all of J. Courtney Sullivan’s work… I think Commencement is my favorite (her phrase “sophomore year of life” has stuck with me for years), but I was so excited to see this available at the library!
