If you haven’t checked out the latest Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. episode “T.A.H.I.T.I.” you might just be missing out on some interesting developments for the MCU.
For a quick, short recap of last nights episode, Coulson as his team, with the help of Bill Paxton (kicking ass) storm a secret, non-S.H.I.E.L.D. facility, where Coulson was “saved” in an attempt to gain GH.325, and unknown substance, but one that is shown in Coulson’s records, to have the ability to regenerate damaged tissue (ala Coulson’s heart). Now, that is a short and messy breakdown of the episode, but the kickers to the episode are what happened in the last ten minutes. For those spoiler-phobes that have yet to be spoiled, you might want to steer away now….
During the raid of the facility, which isn’t named or labeled, short of being referred to as the “Guest House”, Coulson finds a room/lab labeled T.A.H.I.T.I., where you see the equipment that has been used to develop/extract GH.325. along with a tube simply labeled “G.H.”
When Coulson opens this, he finds where GH.325 comes from: the body/corpse of an unknown, blue humanoid, that at first glance looks like he could be the cousin of the Engineers in Prometheus.
We’re shocked too Phil
We know nothing about who or what this thing is, but a few things can be speculated and eliminated:
- He looks nothing like a Chitauri.
- He is too small to be a Frost giant, and beyond the skin color, carries none of the other characteristics of the Frost Giants from Jotunheim
- He has a number of markings on his body that look to be symbols or alien writing, both on his chest and forearm.
- He was badly injured, possible burned (in a crash?) and some injuries appear specific, including his hand, where the tips of his fingers have been burned off (compare to the other uninjured hand)
Those are nails, but bones
Compared damaged hand to undamaged hand
The first thought most have had is that he could be a member of the Kree, an alien species we’ll soon be seeing in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy, even more specifically a specific member of that race (more on that in a moment) or that he is an Atlantean.
I want to say that with the bits that we have seen in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. including alien writing in the episode Eye Spy, and the inclusion of Asgardian artifacts, Chitari technology, and interaction with Asgardians, that its much more likely that this will turn out to be some type of alien rather than introduce us to a whole new layer of the universe, which an Atlantean would do.
The Kree
Now back to who this blue boy could be. There has been some speculation that this could be the body of Captain Mar-Vell, who is indeed a member of the Kree race. The argument there would be, why introduce such a character, as basically a dead body? While that question may be valid, there are a few things to look at (all with a grain of salt) as to why this could in fact turn out to be, not only a Kree, but Mar-Vell.
First off, the argument for G.H. is that mostly its assumed it’s in reference to “Guest House” basically meaning that all the GH serums (we saw a few) all originated from this base, but why have “G.H.” on the tube? Are they just referring to the containment tube as the “Guest House” that resides in “T.A.H.I.T.I.” or could they be more specific initials? Initials belonging to Mahr Vehl of Marvel’s Ultimate Universe perhaps? Initials belong to Geheneris Hala’son Mahr Vehl? It’s a bit of a stretch I admit, but the potential for the connection is there, and some of the injuries, especially of the hand, seem very specific, almost story driven. I wouldn’t be surprised that at some point down the line we get more of the backstory of who or what this is and what happened to him.
Second, we have Skye, who is shrouded in mystery. Agents have died to protect her. She was considered an 0-8-4 as an infant, and who’s parentage is a mystery. Theories were rampant that Skye could end up being Jessica Drew aka Spider-Woman, or even Abigail Brand. While any of these could end up happening, Skye could simply end up being our first introduction to the Inhumans in the MCU. The Inhumans origin involve the Kree experimenting on human DNA, it’s not a stretch to think that a tweaked origin could play out, where Skye’s latent abilities are activated or awoken by the introduction of Kree DNA that was used to temporarily give her regenerative abilities, saving her life.
Finally, and with the largest grain of salt, involves Coulson and the mysterious body. The mysterious and typically blasted and ignored Marvel “insider” Roger Wardell has been on Twitter explaining the apparent connection of Coulson and Mar-Vell. Per Wardell, that was Mar-Vell’s body that was seen and buried under the mountain, but that his consciousness is actually in Coulson. That Coulson did indeed die in Avengers, and that he is now actually Mar-Vell.
His subconscious mind is Mar-Vell, but his conscious mind is actually that of an agent who was once named Coulson.

However this ends up playing out, there is no question that Marvel has upped the stakes as to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the value it has for the MCU.
Who or what do you think we saw last night? There are tons of possibilities, including more connections to Guardians of the Galaxy that I didn’t even touch. What are your thoughts? Sound off below!
