Today’s song is by request!
Weird Science is most likely on the list of one of the most recognizable theme songs ever. You either think of the movie, the 90′s television show based on it (picture on right), or both. I grew up in the 90′s so I mainly think of the television theme song because I watched the show a lot as a kid.
Weird Science was released in August of 1985 for the film’s soundtrack and also on the band’s album, Dead Man’s Party. However, the second release is a different version that runs about six minutes. Listen to it HERE.
According to several websites, Oingo Boingo wasn’t too fond of the song because they felt its development was too rushed. They also didn’t like to play it live. One source stated that the record company was waiting on the band to complete a version they were satisfied with but ultimately found a rough take and used that instead.
I almost met Anthony Michael Hall once, who played Gary in the film. However, Hall showed up about five hours late and I gave up and left before then. Still kinda mad at him for that…
Above is the promo video featuring the band & clips from the film.
