Weird Al Yankovic Mandatory Fun
Nothing makes me happier than a new Weird Al Yankovic album, other than a new Weird Al album the day after my 40th birthday.
I’m happy to say that for 32 of my 40 years I’ve had the luxury of listening to Weird Al shred some of the biggest hits ever to get airtime on the radio. The sad news of the day is that it might very well be his last, but lets cross that bridge when we get there.
Weird Al Yankovic Mandatory Fun, his 14th album, is officially in stores, and online, today. I had the chance to preview the album and must say that even though the fun is mandatory it’s the most mandatory fun, fun you’ll ever have! Of course, as is expected on a Weird Al album,it includes the mandatory polka (“NOW That’s What I Call Polka!”) which features the songs “Wrecking Ball”, “Pumped Up Kicks”, “Best Song Ever”, “Gangnam Style”, “Call Me Maybe”, Scream and Shout”, “Somebody That I Used to Know, “Timber”, “Sexy and I Know It”, “Thrift Shop” and Daft Punks “Get Lucky”.
Other artists parodied on the album include Lorde, Iggy Azalea and the Imagine Dragons to name just a few.
Here’s the first, of 8, video from the album for Al’s parody of Pharrell Williams’ “Happy” simply called “Tacky”. Yankovic recruited Williams to help write his version of the song along with his parody of Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines”, “Word Crimes” the 5th track on the album. The video includes cameo appearances by Aisha Tyler, Margaret Cho, Eric Stonestreet, Jack Black and Kristen Schaal dressed in the tackiest of clothing and lip-synching to the “Weird Al” song.
