Weekly Roundup: August 26, 2011

Political Cartoon of the Week

Hi readers!  Starting today, I'm going to be experimenting with a weekly roundup that will deliver some of the most interesting tidbits from around the web.  Every Friday, there will be one political cartoon, one petition, one straw poll, one article of note, and one opinion piece intended to spark thoughts and discussions.  I hope you enjoy the new format and that it represents a nice change-of-pace from the usual, more in-depth analyses (which P.M.F.M. will of course continue to publish).
So, here's the inaugural roundup:
Petition of the Week from Change.org
All of us are either feeling the effects of a jobless recovery or have friends, neighbors, and family members who are.  This petition of the week is one way to stand up against discrimination and ensure that all job-seekers get a fair chance.

Straw Poll of the Week
The media is awash in coverage of Texas Governor Rick Perry's newly-minted campaign.  What do you think of his views?  More importantly, if the general election was held tomorrow, who would you vote for?

Article of the Week
It's been one of the biggest scapegoats for detractors of big government, but now NPR unveils the full story behind the 'shrimp on a treadmill' study here.
Op-ed of the Week
MSNBC's conservative commentator Joe Scarborough weighs in about the growing income disparity and threats to the American dream in a piece for Politico here.
So that's the first weekly roundup.  Please let me know what you think and join the discussion in the comment thread!
