The Weekly Challenge arrived a little late and when it did appear, my mind went into blank mode.
What is the challenge?
Mine. Is there a place, object, or view that’s entirely yours, or you’re a bit selfish or possessive about? Is it a feeling you feel when you look at the photo, or perhaps an unwillingness to share? I get rather possessive about that first cup of coffee in the morning. It’s definitely mine and I want it all to myself.
Share a picture that means MINE to you!
All sorts of ideas appeared and were subsequently dismissed until I came up with this.
I work for a large law firm, with offices across the South of England and in London. It’s typically corporate with every office in the same colours on the wall, the same desks and the same chairs, either blue or pale green depending on which office you are in. In my office they are pale pepermint green.
I spend the majority of my time at work, it’s necessary for me to personalise my own space, and make it MINE.
The photos below are really bad because they were taken at work today on my iPad – why? Well, that is where the lightbulb of an idea went off in my head. Actually the more I look at these photos I realize what poor quality they are, but I hope it doesn’t detract from the theme too much.
In the office we each have a small three drawer cabinet beneath our desks. This cabinet is full of things that are MINE. The bottom drawer is my Imelda Marcos drawer, with shoes in most colours, brown, blue and black. I travel to work in flat comfortable footwear and change into killer heels.
I have my treasured garden mug given to me several years ago by a fellow gardening friend. It is guarded with my life, anyone who works in an office knows how quickly mugs disappear. The glass is also MINE and I have kept this in my possession for a few years also, that’s no mean feat.
I regularly update the photos of my grandchildren because I love the constant reminder that they are MINE and I feel they are near to me. Their faces have been blanked out for this post because I am a little apprehensive of showing them to the whole world, I am sure you will understand.
Office plants abound – big, green, plastic looking ones that are real, we have ladies who regularly polish and water them. I have my own little plants. One is a very tired looking begonia which has not flowered, probably because of the lighting, and the other is an “Exotic” indoor plant recently bought from Wilko. These stake a claim in a space that is MINE.
Finally, in order to make my office space MINE, I have a selection of cardigans on the back of my chair. Actually, this is not the norm, I usually only have one cardigan but its been cold in the morning, so I have wrapped up warm and had to discard it by mid-morning. By the time 5:00pm comes around, I am rushing for a train and leave the cardigan behind – before I know it there are three on the back of my chair.
So now you know a little more about me and how I make my personal space, in a corporate surroundings, MINE.
There are some fascinating takes on MINE from other bloggers, please hope over and take a look at the Daily Post Weekly Photo Challenge.
