Believe is just the type of soaring love song that perfectly completes a languid Saturday afternoon. A late lunch, some lazy glasses of wine and suddenly….Marcus Mumford is your Prince Charming. And there’s a whole album full of these steady indie rock anthems on the new “Wilder Mind”. The Mumford & Sons hilly billy banjos are gone. Tweed vests have been replaced by black leather jackets with collars turned up against the wind. Country lanes are now urban mean streets. Even the video for Believe is a hypnotizing ride through twilight London. And when Marcus Mumford rock whispers “I had the strangest feeling….your world’s not all it seems…” Shivers. Down my spine. It’s very earnest this new Mumford & Sons sound. You’d be hard pressed to find a more suitable soundtrack to the weekend that’s hitting its sweet spot. Far enough from Friday and nowhere near to Sunday.
