This is it for 2014, my last entry into my little journal of favourite moments and little notes about my garden and allotment.
I had a lovely time over Christmas spending quite a bit of time in the garden and at the allotment. The first year of our cottage kitchen garden has come to an end and we still have a few things growing in the veg patch: cabbage, savoy cabbage, red kale, chard, spinach and autumn sown broad beans. We've pruned the apple tree , cut back all the dead growth of the herbs and have given everything a nice thick layer of mulch.
Up at the allotment we have been lucky enough to acquired a second plot next to our existing one. Once we had weeded and manured the whole plot we covered it with a big sheet of plastic. In spring we are planning to plant a whole variety of different pumpkins and squashes, I'm really looking forward to seeing how our second plot will progress. Our original plot is currently providing us with quite a bit of cabbages, kale, brussels sprouts, chard, leeks, turnips, beetroot, swede and my autumn sown onions and garlic are making good process.
I'm really forward to spending January planning the next growing season, focusing on successional growing and trying a few new varieties. If you have any great varieties of vegetables you enjoy growing let me know, it's always great to hear from you! Just tweet me @charlottsgarden and use the hashtag #vegtogrow2015
2015 will have a few new things in store for me. I will be launching my little online shop selling gardening clothing handmade and designed by me, as well as an exclusive collection with Jono Smart who makes beautiful pottery. You can also look forward to monthly recipe guest posts from me on the A Taste of Devon site.
Last but not least my final favourite moments of 2014... Happy New Year to you all and thank you so much for following my adventures, growing, gathering and cooking.
Steve carved his first ever spoon for me, best Christmas present ever.
Going to the beach on Christmas Day, lighting a little fire and having some tea was just perfect.
