“If a black cat crosses your path, it signifies that the animal is going somewhere.”
― Groucho Marx
Truth be told, I occasionally participate in superstitious beliefs, but mine doesn't border on a disorder. I don't have any magical thinking about black cats, and wearing clothes inside out, or itchy palms. Magical thinking for me has to do with the epileptic power supply in the country.
So, I'm lying in bed after about 17 hours of a regular power failure and the minute I think about electricity power comes on.
Another day of regular power failure comes around and I'm sitting in the couch and I tell myself "If I think about electricity power will come on" I think about electricity for about 10 minutes. No power. I try it again for about 20 minutes. No power.
So, I sigh and tell myself that if I stood up and walked to the backyard there would be power before I came back. I do that. Still no power. And the moment I wistfully press a button on the TV remote, power comes on. Wow! And, so, the next time there is that dratted regular power failure I think about electricity and press the TV remote with all the enthusiasm of a wizard, but alas! no power.
That did not stop my teenage mind from thinking I had a supernatural ability to conjure power which I just hadn't harnessed.
When I think about those days I am thankful for age, maturity and the Thermocool generating set at the back yard.
