Parisin-born artist Thierry Cohen is seen as one of the pioneers of digital photography.
And if his work, which has been shown at the Palais de Tokyo, and the Musee de l”Homme in Paris, is anything to go by, we’re so not surprised.
We are totally obsessed with his project – “Villes Enteintes” (Darkened Cities) – which depicts the major cities of the world as they would appear at night without light pollution, or basically: how they would look if we could actually see all the stars.

The process is complicated: he takes his shot – noting the precise time, angle, and latitude and longitude of his exposure.
By noting the precise latitude and angle of his cityscape, he is able to track the earth’s rotation to places of atmospheric clarity like the Sahara.
Then he sets up his camera there to capture what is lost to us city-dwellers – and composites the two images to show us what we really SHOULD be seeing!

More on Thierry here.
While we feel slightly saddened by the somewhat lackluster state of the stars in our skies, we do feel somewhat comforted by the fact that we can wear them on our pants.
