We Might Want to Stop Calling Those Next Avengers Movies “Infinity War: Part 1 & 2”

Earlier today, Captain America: Civil War directors Joe and Anthony Russo told Uproxx’s Mike Ryan that the next two Avengers movies won’t actually be called Infinity War: Part 1 (due 2018) and Infinity War: Part 2 (due 2019). What will they be called instead? They’ll have to get back to you on that because they don’t actually know yet.

From Mike’s report:

I asked the brothers how they decided where to divide the movie – and they said this was a misconception because the two movies are entirely different entities.

“The movies are two very different movies,” answered Joe.

I then asked if it’s misleading having them labeled as “part 1” and Part 2”

“It is misleading,” said Anthony.

Joe added, “The intention is we will change it, we just haven’t come up with the titles yet. But, yes, we will change it. And, yes, that is a scoop: we will retitle them.”

Well, that’s just great. Have they no pity for all those film and comic book sites which will now have to re-update their fancy graphs laying out all of the comic book movies due out through 2020? Look at how much has changed since ComicBookMovie.com put this one together 13 months ago:

ReleaseTimeline_2015-2020Gambit, Fant4stic 2 and Inhumans no longer have release dates, and Fant4stic 2 is definitely dead while Gambit and Inhumans are adrift in development hell. Green Lantern is now working under the title Green Lantern Corps, and Infinity War is currently undergoing a title change, partially because the old titles made it seem like one big movie was being split in half. Audiences really, really didn’t like it when Twilight/Hunger Games/Divergent did that. Plus, that chart doesn’t have Ant-Man and the Wasp and Deadpool 2 nor the release dates WB claimed for two currently untitled DC movies, one of which is almost definitely a solo Batfleck movie.

But fine, Russos, if you simply must change the titles, please, in your infinite wisdom, make sure that one of them comes with the subtitle Electric Bugaloo. If so, you’ll be re-taking that title from Breakin’ and turning it from everyone’s go-to punchline for mockable film subtitles to something awesome.
