Sony has unveiled a new smartphone, which is likely to be a cheaper version of Xperia Z. It’s called Sony Xperia ZR and is designed to be resistant to water and dust.

The phone is IP58 certified, meaning it is highly protected from dust and water ingress. An amazing fact is that you can keep this Xperia successor in water up to 30 minutes of at 150 centimeters deep. Also, the other technical features of Xperia ZR sound very appealing: Xperia ZR has a 4.6 inch display with 720p resolution, a Snapdragon S4 Pro 1.5 GHz processor, 2 GB of RAM and a 13 mega-pixel camera with HDR video recording that makes shots under water! It is powered by a 2300 mAh battery, with a so-called “Battery Stamina” mode, designed to extend the standby time of the phone up to four times by closing apps that aren’t in use. Sony Xperia ZR also comes with NFC and 4G LTE. The latest handset from Sony is 10 mm thick and weighs 140 g.
The Xperia device will be available for purchase in four different color variations, while for the information on the price we’ll have to wait until it becomes official.
