Watches aren’t just for men anymore. In fact, they never were. Watches for women were the very first wristwatches, pioneered by gals like Elizabeth I and Marie Antoinette. So when – and why – did we start thinking of watches as men’s territory? A Y chromosome doesn’t make you the sole proprietor of the Aquanaut.
Today we’re here to take back watches for women. And you know what, we’re just going to take some from the guys while we’re at it. After all, some women love wearing men’s watches. Oh, and one more thing – let’s just go ahead and call them watches, m’kay? I get the need for distinction between the daintier Datejusts and their “gents'” ilk but, like, that’s what the metric system is for. 26mm vs. 36mm. Cool cool cool. Now let’s look at some gorgeous watches on women with ridiculously amazington rings.
Ah, Chanel. You can’t go wrong with a J12 an you definitely can’t go wrong with an enormo round brilliant solitaire.

Now let’s get colorful. I am OBSESSED with this Mother of Pearl dial Day-Date! It reminds me of this other Cartier I’ve loved for years – I have a thing for the colorful strap, I think. And don’t think I’m neglecting that stunning Tacori Gold halo. I’ve swooned over it before.
Now, for a more traditional approach – that’s a 29mm diamond Masterpiece in 18kt yellow with all factory diamond dial, markers and bracelet. A work of art like this practically demands a stand-out tennis bracelet, so we chose a unique emerald cut (as opposed to the round brilliants that are just as lovely, but more common.) The ring unites the two, with A. Jaffe’s signature sleek and geometric designs (to complement the emerald cut diamonds’ facets) and the delicate halo to add femininity.
This is another two-tone trio that I LOOOOOVE. Step one: a really cool mosaic halo engagement ring. Step two: a Masterpiece with bold Roman numerals and a diamond bezel in yellow gold. Step three: a fun bezel set diamond bangle. Repeat as necessary.
Okay, let’s all just take a deep breath and talk about this ring (we’ll get to the watch.) It’s a 5.01 carat elongated pear shape center stone with a fabulous G color and allegedly an I1 clarity grade (I’m not seeing it, are you?) The side stones are two pleasantly plump pear shapes that total 1.05ctw. The watch is a stainless steel Oyster Perpetual with an olive green dial that’s really refreshingly unique and makes a great neutral accessory.
Slammin Salmon! This funky pink dial Day-Date is a steal (I mean, for a Rolex) at $3,995 and is super unique. It’s also a generous 34mm, but not a gigantico Sky-Dweller or anything, so it’s perfect for ladies who want to start beefing up their wristwear without doing a bicep curl every time you check your phone. I love it paired with a stack of big fat wedding bands from Diamonds by Raymond Lee’s private label.
*Starts hearing Quando m’en vo’* You know I’m not shy about playing favorites. This is my favorite. It’s a HUGE 42mm Ballon Bleu with dramatic guilloché Roman numerals and my most favorite whimsical Cartier details. It’s stunning in bright, warm rose gold. Oh, the ring, you say? Talk about the Rockefeller Ice Skating rink pictured above? It’s a positively massive 9.07 carat cushion cut in a simple, sleek platinum setting designed to fade into the background while you ogle the center stone.
