This week’s watch is a classic Panerai we can’t get enough of. Panerai the brand was tailored specifically to the Italian Navy’s elite diving team. Originally the watches had Rolex movements, among other Rolex parts, but int he years since World War II, Officine Panerai has become its own force to reckon with. This Officine Panerai Power Reserve Luminor is a shining example:
Panerai Power Reserve Luminor Carbon Fiber Dial Watch
The first thing that catches the eye, like most Panerai’s, is the Luminor’s sheer size. A 40mm case proves that this watch is not for the faint of wrist – it skews more toward the Royal Oak end of the spectrum than the vintage Reverso, if you catch our drift.
The carbon dial has the same legibility as a billboard, with massive 12 & 6 markers complemented by over-sized batons. An equally huge date window balances out the power reserve and small seconds indicators. Of course, the markers are all luminous (hence the watch’s name).
The watch’s unique crown guard is a proprietary design feature, but it adds to the watch’s uniqueness of design as well as function. Same goes for the strap – it’s attached to the lugs via screws instead of a spring bar. And the case back, like the case, lugs & crown, is also brushed steel – no scratches for you.
Add a crocodile strap in black, and you’ve got all the trimmings of a seriously manly watch that doesn’t sacrifice luxury.
