You sure are fickle, internet.

It wasn’t too long ago that Mr. Rocky was an online darling, lauded as the new pretty face of Hip-Hop. With the release of his debut mixtape Live.Love.A$AP, it was prophesied that Rocky was going to $ave the rap game one dollar sign at a time. Then came his first full length album and erm…well a lot of people decided that is was a bit shit.

But hold your horses Hip-hop fans, what chance does an artist have to grow and develop if you’re we’re going to write them off after a patchy first album? ASAP’s lyrical delivery and the fantastic production on the initial mix tape is enough to throw him a life line until the next record surely. Some tracks on the Long.Live.A$AP were strong in their own right, it’s just unfortunate he has chose to release one of the duds as his latest single.

The official video for the release of ‘Phoenix’ came out yesterday and didn’t fail to disappoint. Even the mighty acting power of Michael K. ‘Omar comin yo’ Williams wasn’t enough to save this from being all style and no substance. There seems to be a time travel element and a Sin City style murder, but we couldn’t work this one out at Raccoon Towers.

Coupled with this faux-art house video is the fact Mr. Rocky has decided to dress as Syd Barrett circa. 1967, pretty much killing his street credibility with a really practical cardigan and dandy hat.  It’s time to move on from this album A$AP and get your edge back.

Watch the video for ‘Phoenix’ below and let us know if we’re wrong on this one:
