Believe it people! Talks started heating up thanks to Nerdist and the #XFiles2015 hashtag movement, but it seems Fox was already considering bringing the show back, and Gillian Anderson was stoking the embers for us. (I knew she seemed like she was interested or nearly making an announcement during the podcast)
At the 2015 Winter TCA Press Tour, Fox chairman and CEOs Dana Walden and Gary Newman revealed that the network is open to bringing back both The X-Files and Prison Break after the success of 24: Live Another Day. They said that the series was being considered for a limited-run event. (Something Anderson was asking about/alluding to during the Nerdist podcast.)
“I think it’s been reported and it’s true that we’ve had some conversations on X-Files. We’re hopeful we’ll bring that back at some point,” Newman said
“If this happens, it will be with David and Gillian reprising their roles. Chris [Carter] is interested, both David and Gillian are interested. Scheduling it is very different. David has his shows and Gillian is doing something in the UK, so it’s a little hard. I really don’t know how fast it can happen because of that. But there are ongoing conversations happening.”
So it looks like there might be more to the #XFiles2015 than we first thought. Fox is already considering doing this, we just now need to convince them it’s worth doing whatever it takes to get it to come true!
I believe! The Truth is Still Out there!
