Vote for Genuine Change

Posted on the 04 May 2013 by Azharnadeem

Pakistan electionVoting is one of the most legitimate ways by which people can express their opinion and contribute to changing society. Change does not happen overnight. It takes each individual to contribute to make it happen. Today’s youth are tomorrow’s future. May 11 will also hold significance for many youngsters, who armed with voter identity, are now ready to cast their vote for the first time. They need to realize that their future is in their own hands. To know this, the first step for them is to vote. Voting allows us to use our power to select people who are honest and look after the needs of the people. Election is the time to do something to make the change we want. Most people think that their vote will not make a difference. I always believe every drop makes an ocean. Every vote counts. About 60-70% voters don’t exercise their right to vote in the country. If they wake up, they can make a difference. Mostly, the poor and middle-class people exercise their voting rights while the elite class treat voting day just like any other holiday.

Democracy is not just about holding elections. Unluckily, whatever experience voters have, of the democratic governments, has shown them to be mired in corruption scandals and inefficiencies which also explain the highly unfavorable opinions the masses have of government institutions. Let me say that Pakistan is not a real democracy; it is a country of, by, and for the wealthy. It has been this way for decades.

Again elections are nearing! In spite of defective political system don’t forget to vote! Just remember voting is not our right, is a citizen responsibility, we must vote ……the voice of the nation. This is our country and it would be foolish not to participate in the political processes which eventually can shape our future.  The vote should be given to the one who is the better and more trust worthy than the other candidates… Vote should be given to the candidate that one believes will give people their rights, prevent oppression; and so on… if we really want to change the status-quo then we have to influence those who walk the corridors of power.  Voting is to protect us, protect our country, protect our next generation to have better life, and better education. I just think that what is truly important is that the public should be helping one another out instead of being pitted against one another. It goes the same to those who are fighting for the betterment for the country. Be the better person for a greater good!

Yes I surely agree that our politics system is reason for our backwardness. Politics has become a business tool. People are entering into politics just to earn money not to serve the society. Because If any country is said to be developed means all the people in that country have to be like that, not only the some members. In our country we have lot of resources, talented people, but we are still at the stage of developing country. For that one of the main reasons is our corrupted politics. But we are not saying that it is the only mistake of politicians, it the main mistake of voters who vote for them, and doing them like that. I think it is our fault that we are unable to find our perfect leader. First of all the mind set of the voter should be changed, and they have to know about each and every person who are nominated for that particular position and give their valuable vote to the person who really do their best. Before giving vote to a candidate have we ever checked his eligibility his candidature? It is a matter of thinking. We should elect the right candidates. Then only we can change our politics and surly Pakistan could become a developed country. Those who do not vote have no rights to criticize about the non-performing political leaders. Our single vote can help select the right candidate that can benefit the city and the nation on a whole.

Just remember the inefficient and incapable political leaders in the near past who destroyed almost all institutions, created ethnic and regional divide, plundered the state resources, highly indebted the country, purposely put the nation into the miseries of power and gas shortage, skyrocketed the prices of essential commodities, and so on. Now fire is burning in the hearts of the people of Pakistan because they have lost everything during the last five years but now they can do nothing. If we want positive changes in society, we have to come out and vote for the right candidates. Elect candidates who know the reality at ground level. My appeal to everyone is to think before they vote about the kind of future that they want to create for themselves and their future generations. Don’t vote based on bias. Use your judgment to think. If we want our government to be responsible and accountable to people, then we must vote dutifully. Vote for those who will be the best for the growth and development of our society. So be ready Pakistan for May 11 is coming! Vote this May and bring a change through the ballot!
