Voice of Russia Radio: Hamas Bans Islamic Women from Running in Marathon

By Mendeleyeev

Voice of Russia Radio is reporting that the UN Relief and Work Agency that is helping Palestinian refugees has cancelled an annual marathon in the Gaza Strip due to a refusal by the Islamist authorities in the enclave to allow women to take part in it.

The VOR report states that the international race that would have been held for the third time was planned as a charitable act that was expected to attract attention to the problems in the Gaza Strip and collect money for sending children to summer camps.

A dialog with the local authorities has continued for two weeks but it ended in a failure, an official representative of the agency Adnan Abu Hassan told Russian news organization RIA Novosti.
