Visit to Sparky’s

Posted on the 09 March 2014 by Tasneem Rajkotwala @tasu0704

Thursdays and Fridays are the most busiest days for us in the whole week! Husband is at home and we make sure to make most of the weekends because that is the only time we get to go around the city and explore new places. Our activities have slightly shifted from para gliding or taking strolls on the beach or paintball sessions to more children friendly so that Little A also enjoy. We, or if husband has some other commitments, I prefer to take Little A mostly to play areas or parks where he gets to meet children of his age as well as socialize. Through Mother, baby and child magazine, I was lucky to get a 25AED  pre-loaded card of Sparky’s which I decided to visit with my toddler last Thursday!  We generally take him to good old Fun City which is very popular in UAE, so we were very excited to try a new play area in town.

Sparky’s is a newly opened family entertainment area located on the second floor of the new extension of Al Ghurair centre. It has a roller coaster ride, bumper cars, soft play area, ice rink, video games, magic plane, 3D and 4D cinemas, car race and a party hall. It operates in the same way as most of the play areas do. Once you buy a smart card from the reception and recharge with whatever amount you wish, you can then use it for all the activities available in the zone . Sparky’s is the only in-house amusement in Dubai, where I have seen a roller coaster ride, so make the most of it if you love the adrenaline rush it gives.

Unfortunately, most of the rides were for ages 3 and above, so Little A couldn’t sit in any of them. Since Sparky’s is new and still building it’s base, it wasn’t as crowded as we had expected, though it was a weekend. When we entered the play area, I thought it was very small as compared to the other play areas I have taken Little A to. But as and when we went climbing inside, we discovered it had more climbing frames which at first looked like a maze with older children running up and down.  It was huge and spacious with lots of activities for children to do.

There are holes at two corners through which a child can go one level down or climb one level up with the help of a hanging rope. There are hurdles and tunnels on each level which provides great deal of excitement to every child.

I am always happy to see Little A pass through such challenges because it gives them loads of strength and build their confidence. When we finally started figuring out things in so much complexity we spotted  a small room which had a fixed canon and guns to shoot the balls. That also, is a fun game to play, both for adults and children.

After we came down from the opposite part of where we started, we found six slides  that goes directly inside the beautiful and colorful ball house. This was the place where we found most children playing and also parents with small babies.

We spent a good one hour 45 minutes tagging ourselves behind Little A.

The soft play area at Sparky’s is mostly suitable for children 12 months and above with super energetic souls who love jumping around. It is safe, clean and has attractive color flooring made of foam mats to attract children of all ages. I couldn’t find much activities for babies 10 months and below except for the ball house which again is not so appealing for babies who don’t sit. If your toddler is fond of trains and mistakes a roller coaster for a train then I am sure you will have a little hard time like how we did. Every time a roller coaster made noise and went above our heads, Little A would stand still, stare and would make a fuss to sit in it. We also missed having a trampoline here, on which Little A loves to jump high. Overall it was a good experience. I plan to take him there more often now that the summers are about to begin and we will have to spend more time indoors than in the parks. Having to spend 30 AED for unlimited time isn’t a bad deal after all!
