Posted on the 15 April 2014 by Anna Peterson

Windows Phone, Android and iOS all have their own virtual assistants named Cortana, Google Now and Siri, respectively. All three have advanced features, but what is the difference between them and which one is better?

Virtual assistants: Siri vs Cortana vs Google Now

The battle of virtual assistants: Cortana, Google Now and Siri.

Cortana (Windows Phone)

Windows Phone 8.1 Cortana

Cortana

Microsoft named its personal assistant after a character in the video game Halo. Cortana was first introduced at the Microsoft’s Build conference in San Francisco on April 2, 2014 and it’s available for Windows Phone 8.1. You can use Cortana to make calls, send messages, set reminders, make notes, recognize music, find nearby restaurants, check your calendar and a lot more. Cortana is able to understand natural language and learn more about you, as well as tell you search results (that it got through Bing).

Google Now (Android)

Android's assistant Google Now

Google Now

Google Now can use your search history to provide you with articles and sports scores that might be of interest to you. It can also analyze your travel plan in order to give you a train timetable while you’re on your way to the station. Moreover, you can get an estimated time of arrival and the best possible directions to your desired location from Google Now.

Siri (iOS)

Apple's assistant Siri

Siri

Apple’s virtual assistant, Siri, is really a personal assistant with an attitude. You can ask it to call people, send messages, make appointments, launch apps/games, play music, answer questions, remember things, and provide you with weather forecasts. The voice recognition and other features have been greatly improved since its first version .

Which One Is the Best?

Google Now is a reliable assistant and perhaps the most convenient one, but at this moment, it appears that Cortana might take the crown in the virtual assistant world. Siri still remains the most popular assistant because there are many jokes and funny videos on the internet regarding its functionality, but it doesn’t have a lot of things that Apple and Microsoft do: the search engine, email system and other useful features.

It seems that the choice of a virtual assistant depends the most on the character of a user. So, tell us, which one would you choose and why?
