Anyway, I return with my absolute favorite (no exaggeration) outfit that I have.
Doesn’t it just scream 1940′s dame/possible Captain America’s love interest? Maybe in my dreams. But yes, this outfit never fails to brighten up the small windowless office in which I work. I have to dress a bit formal, but I refuse to be drabby. This is also great for Sunday Mass if you throw on a cardigan (not pictured).
The skirt is thrifted from a Salvation Army for $6 (similar here), and is made from 100% wool and doesn’t wrinkle. Score! Since I’m short, it’s hard for me to pull off any skirt length below the knees without looking stumpy. I like that this particular skirt is high-waisted and slim cut, which helps to lengthen my legs and avoid this problem. It’s not too tight but cinches at my natural waist so I still keep my feminine shape.
The blouse was definitely a lucky find from Ross (similar here). I adore the polka dots (they will always be timeless), and think the embellished collar adds the perfect amount of glam to it and makes the entire outfit more current. It also takes away the need for accessorizing. The trick about wearing vintage is to include modern details. You want to allude to a past era without looking as though you are lost in time!
I’ve mentioned before that red is my favorite color to wear, right? I’m still a bit afraid to go bold with bright red lipstick. I tried a more muted version here to keep the 1940′s theme going. Peggy Carter pulls it off so effortlessly, but I get so self-conscious with it! The vintage inspired shoes (similar here) with he cute bow ties really pull the entire outfit together, don’t you think?
This is a good outfit to transition into fall weather, although with the weather the way it is I don’t think I have to worry about it soon. That’s all for now, ladies. Tune back in soon! I have some good posts lined up from friends of mine that I’m excited to share. And I am getting back into the habit of writing again, too.
